Preparation of a Sustainable Livelihood Plan for the Codrington Lagoon National Park

GOAL:
A Sustainable Livelihood Plan for the Codrington Lagoon National Park aimed at promoting the establishment of sustainable small industries as well as maintaining the current small independent business operations located within the boundaries of the National park.

This activity is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) full size project; Demonstrating the Development and Implementation of a Sustainable Island Resource Management Mechanism in a Small Island Developing State (SIRMM) Project.

Applications are invited from interested and suitably qualified nationals of African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries (ACP) to fill the above mentioned position in the Caribbean Community Secretariat with assigned duty station in Guyana.

BACKGROUND

The European Commission is supporting African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries in strengthening the implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) at the national, sub-regional and regional levels through a 4-year Programme that addresses a number of critical environmental issues. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the overall coordinator and facilitator of the Programme, which is divided into two components:

GOALS:
1.A comprehensive survey and resulting GPS maps of the Codrington Lagoon National Park which identifies all the resource areas of the Codrington lagoon as well as all resources within the National Park with specific identification of the established zones within the park as well as forms the baseline for the future monitoring of the Codrington Lagoon National Park.

GOALS:
1.An effective Public awareness strategy created and implemented with the goal of ensuring public participation of the Codrington Village in the successful initiation of all present activities and future operation of the Codrington Lagoon National park.

This activity is jointly funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) full size project, Demonstrating the Development and Implementation of a Sustainable Island Resource Management Mechanism in a Small Island Developing State(SIRMM) project and the Organization of American State’s Integrated Management Plan for Codrington Lagoon.

DEVELOPING A BASELINE FOR AND PROMOTING A SYSTEM OF PROTECTED AREAS FOR ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA

Request for Proposals - Development of an National IWRM Policy and Plan roadmap for Antigua and Barbuda

The GEF-funded Integrating Watershed and Coastal Areas (GEF-IWCAM) Project (www.iwcam.org) is providing support to participating project countries to lay the foundations in the preparation of national IWRM Plans and relevant policy support statements.

This foundation work is to result in the formulation of an integrated water resources policy and a planning guideline (or Roadmap) for the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to follow towards development of a National IWRM Plan.

The capacity building network of the Global Water Partnership (CapNet) in collaboration with the UNDP has produced guidelines for the formulation of IWRM Plans, and they are among the principle references that are being used for the work.
